Re: Trump's polling on economy losest in polling history

Screw the polls. When this house of cards collapses a lot of people are going to be in a desperate position.

At this point all indications are that this market is being manipulated to make insiders more money at our expense and to prop up the political fortunes of you-know-who. So why should any of ...

Apparently she was fired this morning or last night. Though apparently not by tweet.

From a practical standpoint, the huge scary issue here is that we have another example where total dingbats appear to be in charge of our security. And when we are in the process of losing a war against a ...

There is also the issue that we have thousands of people on the ground in Saudi, Iraq, and the Gulf States. Normally those folks are resupplied via ship into through the Persian Gulf. Which is closed at the moment.

We might be able to resupply those folks through Jeddah on the Red Sea, but that in ...

Re: Take Action-no bombs for Israel

If you know anything about US Military history, that is mind-blowing. There is a whole system for getting food to ships underway and unless something has totally gone off the rails having food shortages on an aircraft carrier would be unheard of.

Hard to know what exactly happened until we know ...

Re: Take Action-no bombs for Israel

Before this war started, Iran was a marginalized and weak regional power that was substantially contained. They posed zero direct threat to the Untied States. And there are a number of other countries that pose greater threats and we ought to have been focused on those countries.

Before this war ...

Re: Trump bombs Iran, what could possibly go wrong?

It is very disturbing that there is so little information about The War getting back to us. Or at least it is all getting delayed. The destruction of KC-135 tankers by a missile attack which had the MAGA chuds all going crazy last week has now been confirmed by satellite imagery. That's probably ...

AI systems work best when you can rigorously specify what questions they are supposed to answer and what the right answers are. They fail spectacularly when they cannot do that.

We can't rigorously specify what these systems need to do to replace human workers on a massive scale. Everyone assumes ...

That's ten thousand more targets.

There was apparently a drone attack from someone in the southeast.

And I'd keep in mind that there have been no official casualty reports for almost two weeks. I doubt they are keeping it quiet because the news is good.

Good points but there is zero evidence that the current track AI is on is going to lead to massive job losses.

If you are optimistic and generous the current generation of AI tools can increase productivity by about twenty percent. In practice in the real world it is more like ten percent. That isn ...

Re: Trump bombs Iran, what could possibly go wrong?

It seems pretty likely that futures markets are wildly underpricing where the price of a barrel of crude oil is going. I think $200 per barrel is possible (which translates to $10-$12 for a gallon of gasoline here).

There are also pretty clear cutoffs where things are going to get a lot worse. One ...

As long as Iran can keep world petroleum prices elevated, they are winning. Doesn't really make any difference what we do in retaliation for that either.

They are winning because they can strangle our economy just by pushing petroleum prices up. And ...

The first year of the second Trump administration they spent a lot of time and effort undoing any efforts to get us away from fossil fuels. Including spending billions of dollars to pay companies to cancel large-scale projects.

Now that bill is coming due. With interest.

That's the whole idea. This is a way to "uncitizen" a whole lot of people who are politically inconvenient to their program.
